What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a medical condition that causes excess tissue to form in the male chest, resulting in what is commonly referred to as “man boobs” or “Gyno.”  This can often be compounded by the accumulation of hormonal fat in the chest area which is resistant to diet and exercise.

Gynecomastia can affect men of all ages (nearly 65-70% of males), gynecomastia (gyno) is often first noticed in young men undergoing puberty but can occur later in life. Though gynecomastia is not usually painful, it can be significantly detrimental to a man’s self-esteem and can prevent him from feeling comfortable with his appearance inside and outside of clothing.

Gynecomastia Surgery: What to Expect

Gynecomastia surgery (male breast reduction) is normally a one-time procedure, unless there is extra redundant skin that needs removal which is rare.

How It Works

Dr. Jean’s approach to gynecomastia includes full removal of the gland and when necessary power assisted liposuction of additional surrounding fibrous fat and rarely if indicated skin removal. Once the gland is removed, there is no more puffiness or pointed nipples. (Liposuction alone does not work. The gland has to be removed to achieve a flat chest.)

How Long Does the Procedure Take? How Much Downtime Will I Need?

The procedure will take a couple of hours and you go home the same day. No drainage tubes. No stitches that need to be removed. Most men can return to normal activities in 48 hours or less, including returning to work.

How Soon Can I See Results?

You will see an immediate improvement, but it takes 6 months for full healing. Most swelling resolves in a week or less.
