Preparation for Chin Liposuction

Chin Liposuction Procedure

Anesthesia

Local anesthesia is typically used to numb the target area before neck and chin liposuction. Dr. Jean injects a local anesthetic into the zone beneath the chin. It blocks pain signals to the brain so the procedure can be performed while the patient is awake and comfortable. We may also discuss general anesthesia if the patient wants to be asleep during the entire surgery.

Tumescent Solution

Chin Augmentation

This surgery aims to improve the size, shape, or projection of the chin. It involves placing a silicone or other biocompatible implant that integrates with the chin bone (mandible) and surrounding tissues. An incision is made either under the chin or inside the... mouth, through which the customized implant is positioned into the pocket to build and define the chin. The incisions are then closed. Neck Lift

A neck lift is a cosmetic surgery that aims to tighten sagging skin around the neck and is a great add-on to neck and chin liposuction. During this procedure, incisions are made in front or back of the ears, under the chin, or in the natural creases... of the neck. The underlying muscle and connective tissues are tightened using sutures or surgical adhesives. Dr. Jean also removes excess skin to eliminate sagging. The incisions are then closed. This surgical procedure reduces the "turkey neck" appearance by lifting and smoothing loose skin. It can also reduce vertical neck bands.

Recovery After Chin Liposuction

First 24 Hours

On the first day after chin liposuction, patients should expect swelling and bruising of the target area. Ice packs may be applied to alleviate these symptoms. Patients are advised to rest with their heads elevated during the initial recovery period and avoid strenuous activity. Dr. Jean also prescribes pain medication to keep patients comfortable.

Week 1

Swelling and bruising continue to improve throughout the first week. Some discomfort and tightness around the chin should be expected. Patients may switch from ice packs to warm, moist heat compresses. Stitches are removed around 5-7 days after surgery during one of the follow-up appointments. Patients can usually return to work within 7-10 days. However, individuals with physically demanding jobs may need more time to recover.

Weeks 2-4

Most swelling subsides within two to four weeks after chin liposuction, and patients start seeing their final contour results. There is usually some numbness around the chin and neck, which is normal. Patients may return to their exercise routines by the end of week four.

Months Later

After a few months, patients see their final chin profile. All symptoms, including swelling and numbness, disappear. Patients may continue massage and heat treatment if needed.
