Lip Lift Surgery in Bryn Mawr & Philadelphia, PA

Plastic Surgeon & Medical Spa Serving Bryn Mawr, Villanova & Communities Near The Main Line Of Philadelphia, PA

As you age, you may expect to see more lines and wrinkles on all parts of your body. What you may not expect is for your lips to deflate or thin out. Lip shape and volume can start to change during your 20s! This happens because the body doesn’t make enough collagen and hyaluronic acid to support the overall use of these substances. As a result, the skin and superficial tissue deteriorate.

Here at Main Line Plastic Surgery, we can help you address the full spectrum of cosmetic aging. We often do so using nonsurgical modalities like injectables. For enduring results, though, you might want to consider surgery. We’re proud to offer lip lift surgery. To learn more about this minimally-invasive procedure, contact us at Text or Call.

What is a Lip Lift?

A lip lift is a surgical procedure that is performed to enhance the shape and size of the lips. The most common lip-enhancing surgery is the sub-nasal lift. This technique improves lip shape by reducing the distance between the upper lip and the bottom of the nose. The procedure is often performed using local anesthesia, which completely numbs the area. To shape the lip, the surgeon makes a small incision that follows the bottom of the nose and removes a thin strip of tissue between the nose and the upper lip. Fine stitches are placed to close the incisions. These may dissolve on their own or be removed at your one-week follow-up visit. Because the incision line follows the natural crease, scarring should eventually be unnoticeable.

What Should I Expect in Terms of Lip Lift Recovery?

Lip lift recovery is pretty mild compared to most facial plastic surgery. Your incision lines will be very small but will need some TLC for a week or two. Because incisions are made, there is a slight risk of infection and bleeding. Following your post-op care instructions, you can keep these risks very low. You can expect to develop bruising and swelling after your procedure. These may worsen for a day or two before they begin to diminish. About one week after surgery, you’ll visit us for a follow-up during which your doctor will remove the stitches that closed your incisions. To promote optimal healing, you must avoid strenuous activities that increase your heart rate. You should be able to resume most if not all of your normal activities, including more intense exercise, after two weeks of recovery.

Can I Get a Lip Lift and Lip Fillers, Too?

You don’t have to stop at a lip lift! Many patients decide to combine this treatment with other procedures, including dermal fillers. We have a wide variety of products to choose from, and we can help you determine which lip filler is ideal for your desired improvements. We’re excited to have soft tissue fillers from reputable manufacturers that have been designed to remain soft and supple, just like your natural lips should be!

Dermal fillers are a popular option for lip enhancement with or without a lip lift. Another option that’s becoming increasingly popular is fat grafting. This two-step technique increases lip volume by removing a small amount of fatty tissue from an area such as your abdomen, low back, thighs, or another area, purifying the product to isolate the fat cells, and then injecting these cells into the lips. Fat grafting is advantageous because the results of this treatment far outlast the average dermal filler. In addition to enhancing your lips, your fat transfer treatment can also address other signs of facial aging, such as nasolabial folds, if you’d like.
